Interhouse tournaments

Date: 13th Nov 2020 @ 9:08am

The children have had a brilliant time this week in PE competing in various sports tournaments in their houses. They have shown good development of their skills, some great teamwork and brilliant sportsmanship.

Year 3 took part in a handball tournament, Year 4 took part in a football tournament, Year 5 took part in a netball tournament and Year 6 took part in a tag rugby tournament.

With all the results across the school added up there was one winner in the end..... RAMSBURY!!!!!

In 2nd was Avebury, 3rd Figsbury and 4th Clearbury.

A massive thank you to all the children for their efforts this week.

Date: 12th Nov 2020 @ 7:17pm

Following on from our science this week, here is an interesting article that you could read together at home.  It answers the question that a curious member of Fir class asked...

Curious kids:  Why do we lose our baby teeth?

Remembrance Day

Date: 11th Nov 2020 @ 3:41pm

In Year 4's Guided Reading sessions this week we have been reading and analysing the poem Flanders Fields by John McCrae.

We analysed the language within the poem and considered the meaning behind words, phrases and lines in the poem. We also read the poem in tandem with our teachers - please feel free to listen to it.

Really big numbers

If big numbers, really big numbers are your thing, here is a great little website that turns numbers written in figures into text so you can read them.

Transtar

A space-themed game which helps you learn and practice reflections, rotations and enlargements on a grid.

Factris

A clever take on the  80s computer game where you have to arrange falling shapes to make complete rows.
The original version Tetris with different shapes that you rotate is good fun too and helps you develop shape skills.  The whole site Mathigon is worth exploring.

j2e maths activities

A range of activities including tutorial videos using the amazing j2e tools.

Y4's Practical Maths Week!

Date: 6th Nov 2020 @ 2:24pm

Year 4 have been working hard this week to understand the relationships between mm, cm, m and km. We took our learning outside worked through a series of challenges. We even measured how many times around the St Mark's field would be equal to 1km.

If you were wondering, the answer is just over two times around!

Wonderful Weaving!

Date: 19th Oct 2020 @ 8:23am

Year 4 were developing another artistic technique today - we created looms using cardboard and cotton buds and then wove some magic!

Welcome to a brave new world

Date: 14th Oct 2020 @ 4:24pm

Dear Lovely Parents/Carers

Welcome to our fantastic new website.

After many years of feedback and handing the torch over to the eager SLT we now have a website to be even prouder of. I most grateful to Mr Williams for his enduring patience and super human skills in researching, collating and herding all of our cats to present this to you. His leadership and encouragement have brought us to this point and remains inspirational. We like to think of our website as a Toys R Us approach - everything under one roof rather than gone bust! We hope you find it informative and of interest. I am also eternally grateful to Martin Jones for the stunning photos and our wonderful Friends of St Mark's (PTA) for funding the venture. Exciting times. A brave new world indeed.

Now I've got a platform I may be blogging a bit more often. Who knows what will be on my mind.

Very best wishes

MrF

Year 3 log in to j2e

Date: 17th Sep 2020 @ 4:03pm

This week in Computing we logged into j2e.  There are lots of exciting tools to help us learn, including Spell Blast and TT Blast to practise our spelling and tables.  It would be really great if children could learn their username and password.
