Music

At St. Mark’s C of E Junior School, we strive to cultivate a real enjoyment of music through the provision of a wide range of musical experiences and opportunities for individual and group expression of ideas and talents.

The children enjoy listening to, singing and performing music in a wide range of musical styles that not only enhance their topic based work but also build on a series of musical skills. They are given opportunities to share music that they enjoy as well as following the demands of the National Curriculum Requirements and expressing what they have learned through group or individual compositions.

Their experiences are extended beyond the classroom when they participate in weekly whole school singing practices and when they perform in our many concerts and Church Services throughout the year.

Each class has a 50 minute music curriculum lesson once a week. This takes place during a morning PPA session, whilst class teachers are out of the classroom. The children have Music, ICT and RE lessons during the same morning on a rotation. Each subject is taught by a specialist subject teacher.

School Choir

We hold two lunchtime choir sessions on Wednesdays for Years 3-4 and 5-6.
All children are welcome and encouraged to come along and sing.  As well as singing during assemblies,to children at Wyndham Park and during the School Summer Fair; we sing at regular events in the community throughout the year.  Some of these events have included The Christmas Tree Festival at St. Thomas’ Church, singing at Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Bourne Hill Council Offices and travelling up to Wembley Arena to take part in Voice in a Million.
